For Lunch, Dinner, or Just a Beer with Friends, Try Riviera Café Brewhouse

SOUTH SHORE BUSINESS REVIEW - riviera-cafe brewhouse logo

Author: Nicholas DiPietro, BSU student

I interviewed David, the owner of Riviera Café Brewhouse located in Bridgewater, MA. When beginning the start-up process sixteen years ago in 2004, David was looking closely at emerging market trends and realized the shortage of a quality draft beer selection. For those who have not visited Riviera, the list of craft beers is enormous! The idea could certainly float on its own; however, as many business owners know, it is just the beginning.

When asked about the biggest challenge during the start-up process, David detailed that construction and remodeling the existing building was time consuming.

David needed to consider his needs in remodeling when the building was bought, and hindsight proved to be 20/20. I asked what he would do different if he were able to start the business over today and I was surprised to learn that a bigger bar was number one on his list. The small bar can be a gift and a curse on busy nights as not all patrons can find a seat to grab a beer. However, after some deliberation, the bar size keeps Riviera Café Brewhouse exclusive and a serious hidden gem.

Keeping up with a business climate can be challenging for any small business owner. David has noticed that the business climate in 2020 is as competitive as ever and rising costs contribute greatly to business decisions. Not every expense is sunk though. Being a brewhouse, David and his crew are a part of an application called Untapped. This service allows users to discover and share their favorite spots to grab a pint. While Riviera pays to be part of the service, the return in demand is well worth the expense. David considers this his best channel for customer attraction. It is clear that he is well versed in business management and is keeping up with 2020’s ever-growing tech.

Looking forward, Riviera Café Brewhouse hopes to bring in sizeable dinner crowds nightly. Many may view Riviera as simply another tap room. This is not the case. The mouth-watering menu pairs perfectly with any of the over FIFTY beers on tap! David hopes that word of mouth will continue his business’ success and attract more patrons for a quality sit down meal.

Overall, Riviera Café Brewhouse’s atmosphere speaks for itself.

A homegrown restaurant and bar where a quality beer and quality company are just around the corner. If you are looking for a night out at one of the South Shore’s hidden gems, Riviera Café Brewhouse will not disappoint. Live music on Saturday nights provide the perfect atmosphere for a night out with friends or the ideal backdrop to grab a beer on that awkward first date.

My final question for David was how he thinks his business stands apart from the rest of the taprooms in the area. The answer is simple… Riviera has the best and the biggest draft selection on the south shore. Ask around, I’m sure you’ll be impressed with what people who have visited have to say.
